The Morphogenetic Fields 1

about

The group that became Morphogenesis was at first a larger pool of musicians, drawn from students who attended Roger Sutherland's New Music course at City University. We began to meet regularly at Morley College from January 1985, to play and record text pieces and graphic scores, such as 'Stones' by Christian Wolff. After a few months, the line-up settled down to the original core of five musicians, and we adopted the name Morphogenesis (influenced by Rupert Sheldrake and his theory of Formative Causation). We also found a new home at West Square Electronic Music Studio, thanks to the generosity of Barry Anderson. At the same time, we moved from doing text scores to improvisation. This was the first improvisation that we chose to record. Hearing it again, I am amazed at the strong and clear shortwave signals that we were able to receive in the middle of an electronic music studio, with just telescopic aerials. Inconceivable in the electromagnetically polluted environment of today.

about

Michael Allen Z. Prime Cork, Ireland

The use of bioactivity translators to amplify the electrical activity of plants and fungi has been central to much of Prime’s work. Through the medium of sound, listeners are able to enter and interact with the transient world of plant reactions.
